FAQs

The term “chaplain” dates back to the Middle Ages and the role was that of a priest attending the needs of the king. Thus, historically a chaplain held a dualistic role of being a member of one institution (church) while serving another (the military).
A chaplain’s identity and role today is much more expansive. Chaplains are trained to honor all faiths, or no faith at all. The chaplaincy movement today recognizes that a person’s spiritual and emotional well-being are intertwined and present in every moment of their day. With this in mind, the impact of a chaplain’s presence in any setting is great.

I consider myself a Community Chaplain and serve anyone who asks, or in any setting into which I’m invited. I have experience working with first responders, educators, patients and families, veterans, inmates and detainees, adolescents, parents, social justice activists, and employees in workplace settings.
Compassion and curiosity lead my chaplaincy engagement. I bear witness to your story with a non-anxious and non-judgmental presence. I ask questions with an open mind and open heart.
I do NOT attempt to “fix” you. Instead I honor your life and story as whole.
I do NOT evangelize. Instead I respect and affirm your own spiritual understanding and expression.
“I would love to live like a river flows,
carried by the surprise of its own unfolding.”
— John O’Donohue
