Spiritual Companionship
Your journey
Your lead
“Spiritus” is Latin for “breath.” Our simple act of breathing is spiritual. Because we are alive, we are spiritual.
How do your breathe? What makes you feel alive? Where do you experience wonder? When do you embody joy?
We will investigate how to braid together our head, heart, and hands - how to open our minds, invite peace to our hearts, and engage in our world with meaning and purpose.
This is a journey of connection, of remembering, of returning home.
Together, we will walk a path of discovery.
FAQs
What is the difference between spirituality and religion?
Spirituality refers to how we find and express meaning and purpose in our lives; and how we connect to the moment, ourselves, each other, nature, and what we may define as sacred.
Religion is a construct made to define the beliefs and practices by which we express our spirituality.
What do I do if I’m spiritual but not religious?
There are many sacred texts, spiritual practices, and ways to connect in community. We will discover what feels best to your head, heart, and hands.
I’ve never thought about my spirituality. Where do I start?
No problem! Having a curious mind and open heart is the first step. From there together we will learn and experiment with different concepts, practices, and community engagement.
Do I have to believe in God to be spiritual?
You can believe in one god, many gods, or no god at all. People around the world engage in their connection to divine beings in many different ways. Believing or not believing in a higher power is just one aspect of being spiritual.
I’m deeply religious but not welcome in my church. Where can I go?
There are many welcoming and affirming houses of worship. We can find one that feels safe and comfortable for you. Or we can discover a new way for you to experience your beliefs and practices.
I like aspects of different religions. Can I combine them?
Absolutely!
Annie Savoy, in Bull Durham
“I believe in the Church of Baseball. I've tried all the major religions and most of the minor ones. And the only church that truly feeds the soul, day-in day-out, is the Church of Baseball.”
Ada Limón, 24th Poet Laureate of the United States
“It’s almost as if poets are offering a religion of noticing things.”
